The heart of Sound Waves. A community of women who cheer each other on, laugh loudly, celebrate the wins and remind you that you never have to do hard things alone.
Whether you've just moved to the area or you've lived here your whole life, you'll be welcomed from the moment you walk through the door. The friendships built here often stretch far beyond rehearsals, creating a community you'll look forward to coming back to every week.
The People
From rehearsal room to stage. Every performance is a chance to step outside your comfort zone and build confidence.
Whether it's your first performance or your fifteenth, every show is the result of months of hard work, commitment and plenty of laughs along the way. The nerves, the excitement and the buzz of performing live are all part of the experience. You'll leave every performance feeling proud of what you've achieved.
The Performing
From current artists like RAYE and Olivia Dean to timeless classics by Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Wonder, every song is arranged exclusively for Sound Waves. Rich harmonies, fresh ideas and music you'll be proud to perform.
Every arrangement is written to challenge and inspire while remaining accessible to singers of all experience levels. We love creating those goosebump moments that make a song unforgettable. It's familiar music, reimagined in a way that's uniquely Sound Waves.
The Arrangements
I trained as a singer, keys player and a vocal coach. I spent years performing, teaching, and arranging music — and then, during the pandemic, I stopped. I retrained as a primary school teacher because I wanted something stable, something certain. I told myself music was a younger person's path. I moved to Kinsale in Cork not knowing many people. It's a small town, and I was lonely in a way I hadn't expected to be. I started a small singing group on a Tuesday night because I missed singing with people. I told everyone it was just a bit of craic. I thought twenty women might come.
Two years on, there are over sixty of us. We've performed in large venues with a four piece band, made a music video and sold out a Christmas concert with no promotion. Women drive in from Cork City and locally to be there on Tuesday nights. The thing I started "as a bit of craic" is now the thing I'm building my life around. This September I'm opening a second night in Ballincollig — the part of Cork I'm from. Sound Waves has always been about the singing being the doorway, not the destination. I can't wait to open that door in another room.

If you can hold a tune, you're grand. We do everything by ear and you'll have line tapes to learn at home. No reading music required.

No. There are no auditions and no solos unless you want one.

Life happens. Members commit to the year, but the line tapes mean you can catch up between classes.

Yes — the last Tuesday or Thursday of every month is a free taster night. Bring her along.

Soundwaves is currently a women's choir. That may change down the line — for now, this is a space for women.

A mix. The freshest hits — Raye, Olivia Dean, the songs you have been singing in the car all week. Arrangements are written specially for the group. Some folk, some soul and the occasional original arrangement of a song by an Irish singer-songwriter we love. We lean towards songs with strong harmonies and a bit of feeling.
